Product Overview

A garbage disposal is a great addition to any and every kitchen. It doesn't matter if you have a small kitchenette or a giant, top-quality design with an island in the middle. Every kitchen sink is more useful with a disposal under it. After almost 100 years of manufacturing kitchen garbage disposal, InSinkErator wanted to make sure that everyone had the option to add this great appliance to their culinary space.

When they designed the InSinkErator Badger 5 Garbage Disposal with Cord and ½ HP of Continuous Feed, they focused on creating a unit that would fit into the smallest of budgets, tiniest of cabinets, and never wear out. This unit is not the most powerful on the market, but it will meet all of the needs of any household with less than 5 people in it. Since it doesn’t have any wearable parts, it is considered to be maintenance-free.

While the Badger isn’t designed to be stealthy, it’s got a standard noise level that won’t be overly bothersome, and it’s very quick and easy to install. The Badger can easily be swapped into place, and the cord just gets plugged into a regular outlet. You won’t have to worry about measuring the size of your sink cabinet, either. This unit is 6.5 inches by 6.5 inches by 11.5 inches, so it will fit under small sink cabinets with ease.

Keep It Running Smoothly

One of the best features of the Badger 5 is its durability. Since none of the parts will wear down, you can rely on it for many years. This model is considered maintenance-free because there is nothing that is required for you to do to keep it going. That said, there are some tips that may help you enjoy this garbage disposal even more than you otherwise would:

Keep it Clean

This kitchen disposer is great for grinding up citrus peels. When you do, you'll find that your kitchen smells great and bacteria struggle to grow in your disposal. You can also pour a bit of degreaser down the drain to clean out any fats or oils that accidentally got tossed down the drain, and an occasional ice cube or six with scrape out any sludge that may have built up. Just remember to cover the drain before you start grinding ice.

Stay Safe

Turn off, unplug, and be careful when trying to remove something that is not food from your disposal! Even better, use a tool instead of your hands to retrieve your lost item. Bent wire coat hangers work great for this and can ensure that you keep all ten of your fingers. NEVER try to remove an item from the disposal while it is still plugged in, even if you’re using hanger!

Follow Directions

The Badger 5 does an amazing job grinding up food waste because that is exactly what it was designed to do. It will not do a great job grinding up paper, wrappers, plastic, or Styrofoam. Garbage disposals are not meant to tackle this kind of trash. They will likely clog and damage your unit, and even if they do manage to pass through, they’ll end up polluting your waterways. Take the time to read your instruction manual and only stick food waste down through your disposal.

Check the Reset

While the Badger 5 is sure to run for many years with no maintenance required, there can be events that trip the reset button. This will prevent damage to your disposal but can also leave your scratching your head and wondering why it doesn’t seem to work. If you find yourself in the position, look underneath the unit, under your sink. Check that reset switch and toggle it, if necessary.

Grind Your Food Waste, Not Your Money

InSinkErator has been making some of the most durable, reliable, and high-quality kitchen disposers available since 1927. Every product they make is going to do the job and do it well, so when you choose one of their models, you’ll know it’s a worthy investment of your money. The Badger 5 may be marketed as the economic or affordable choice for a kitchen garbage disposal, but never doubt that it is still an InSinkErator. This isn’t a cheap throw-a-way, and you’ll love the rugged durability of the Dura-drive induction motor.

  • Easy Installation – the cord is ready, the unit is small, the swap is easy. InSinkErator includes all of the parts you will need, even if you’re connecting to a dishwasher.
  • Small Size, Big Benefit – while the Badger 5 is small in size and cost, you’ll get the 1/2HP you need to power most household, along with the maintenance-free dependability that comes with a high-quality InSinkErator garbage disposal.

  • Power – If you have a household with more than 5 people, you’ll want to upgrade to a motor with more than 1/2HP.

No matter how small your kitchen or budget may be, InSinkErator wants you to enjoy the benefits and convenience of a kitchen garbage disposal. With the InSinkErator Badger 5 Garbage Disposal with Cord and ½ HP of Continuous Feed, you’ll know that you have a reliable disposal that can make your kitchen cleanup quick and easy.
